A Step-by-Step Guide to the Best Eco-friendly Gift Boxes
Who doesn’t love receiving gifts? I know I do. Especially now, when so many of us are separated by Covid restrictions, sending a gift box is an excellent way to provide some much-needed comfort and show people we care – and we can show we care about the planet at the same time!
These are a few simple steps for choosing eco-friendly gift boxes to share the love with our family and friends, and the environment.
Step one – ‘Bee’ natural
Pure, simple, natural ingredients are not only great for the planet, they are great for our bodies – which is particularly important now when we could all use a little extra comfort. Whether it’s a relaxing, refreshing cuppa to lift the spirits, or nourishing, natural skincare products to give our tired bodies a lift, make sure you check that the ingredients of your gift are all natural, and from sustainable sources.
Step two – Consider different eco-friendly options
Second-hand items are super eco-friendly because they require no new resources. While many op-shops aren’t open just now, perhaps you can look closer to home. Passing on something we love – such as a piece of jewellery – to someone who will love it even more is not only eco-friendly, it is truly a gift from the heart.
Step three – Think about who you are gifting to
What are their likes and dislikes? Sending a gift that won’t be used is wasteful, so think and choose carefully.
Step four – Consider DIY
Why not share your own natural abilities by cooking or creating a homemade gift? Again, it’s all about the ingredients you use. If you are cooking, choose sustainable, organic (maybe even home-grown) ingredients. If you love to knit or crochet, use natural fibres such as pure alpaca wool.
Step five – Consider DIY, in reverse
Is your giftee a handy person with a little extra time on their hands? Why not send them a project such as a DIY beeswax wrap kit?
Step six – Home is where the heart is
With so many people stuck at home, you might also consider a gift to make that home environment eco-friendly and more relaxing. Our hand-poured pure beeswax candles are great for removing odours, mould and dust from the air.
Step seven – Remember, good things come in eco-friendly packaging
If you are putting together your own box, ensure you use recycled materials – think about re-using boxes from past gifts or deliveries. If you are selecting a gift online, check what it comes in – look for waste-free packaging and plastic-free gift wrapping and trims.
Step eight – Think outside the box
A voucher for a service or experience – anything from a massage to a museum visit – requires few or no natural resources and gives people something to look forward to post-lockdown. But what if you can’t wait, or can’t decide? Sometimes it’s nice to let others choose what suits them, so a gift card from an ethical supplier you trust and love is always a great idea.
Step nine – The most important step: Fill it with love!
